According to the CDC,

107,375 people in the United States died of drug overdoses and drug poisonings in the 12-month period ending in January 2022. 

A staggering 67 percent of those deaths involved synthetic opioids like fentanyl.  Some of these deaths were attributed to fentanyl mixed with other illicit drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin, with many users unaware they were taking fentanyl. Only two milligrams of fentanyl are considered a potentially lethal dose; it’s particularly dangerous for someone who does not have a tolerance to opioids.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — At least seven Los Angeles teenagers have overdosed on pills likely laced with fentanyl over the past month, including a 15-year-old girl who died on a high school campus, authorities said.

The most recent overdose occurred Saturday, and Los Angeles police were investigating whether those pills are related to the Sept. 13 fatal overdose of Melanie Ramos in a restroom at Bernstein

With Halloween just weeks away, the DEA is warning parents the deadly rainbow-colored pills may be marketed to children. The recent seizure in Connecticut found the drugs stashed in Skittles and Nerds packaging. “We’re seeing an unprecedented number of kids dying as young as 13 years old,” Maltz said on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday. “And we know now, the DEA says, that 40% of the pills contain a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl.
